Photo day and the 1st annual gear swap were a great success despite the rain. Thank you to everyone who helped out. Be sure to get your orders in with Darby photo’s soon if you are ordering.

Montgomery Field – Thank you to all the volunteers who came out and placed base anchors. We now have a field box on the diamond at West 43rd and Oak. Montgomery Park is fantastic and we are very excited to have the use of this top quality field for our games.

Bandits Steal Silver

Congratulations to the U13C Bandits who competed in their first ever tournament in Delta on May 3-5. Playing after only one house league game, they went into the tournament determined to play strong against tough competition. They finished with two ties, two losses and only one run away from making the playoffs. Great work by coach Lisa and her team. The head umpire gave them a winning compliment by mentioning they were the nicest team he has met in twelve years, having such positive attitudes.  This was such a great experience for the Bandit’s that not only elevated their game, but also created a fun, social and bonding time as a new team. Lisa mentioned how grateful she is to have such a strong co-coaching team, along with dedicated players and supportive parents. The Bandits look forward to the Provincials mid June.

Good luck to the U13 Pythons going into the Richmond Tournament May 17-19. Also to the U13 Purple Dragons who will be attending the Fleetwood Tournament, in Surrey, May 24-26th.

Tournaments are such a high point for players’ seasons. GO U13!!

Mighty Wildcats Bring Down Large Prey

Congratulations to the U11 team coached by Erick Factor playing in their first tournament with the Mitey Wildcats U11 - 2013’s. They were the only C team, out of 8 teams, in the May 3rd to 5th tournament in New Westminster. They had 1 grand slam, 4 triples, 6 doubles, and 94 total bases in 3 games to make the finals. The Mitey Wildcats came away with a silver medal in Tier 2. They also had Lexa Mann win the home run derby out of the 64 Rep girls playing.  It was an exciting weekend for the 2-week-old team to play against teams that had been practicing together since last fall and some for 2 years prior.  The 2013’s Mitey Wildcats are to be taken seriously in future tournaments, said the tournament coordinator.

The 2011 and 2012 Wildcats ventured over to Langford at the end of April for an icebreaker tournament. Both teams played well and the players had a great time staying in the same hotel near the ballpark. They are keen to enjoy more travel tournaments in the future. Both teams will also play in the North Shore medal tournament in early May.

The 2005 Wildcats win gold in Kelowna!

In their first Medal tournament of the season Wildcats 2005 win Gold at U19 Spring Sizzle in Kelowna.

The team was undefeated in the tournament, with wins against the Cloverdale Fury 06 (2-1), Surrey Storm 05  (4-1), Langley Xtreme 06 (5-0), Coquitlam Classics 06 (8-4). In the playoffs and with the help with some “shenanigans” the Wildcats overcame the Coquitlam Classics 06 (5-1) and finally secured  the victory against the Cloverdale Fury 06 ( 7-4) in the gold medal game.

The concession stand is open and will be operating most Mondays to Thursdays until the end of the season. Drinks and snacks are available and Vancouver is still home to the $1 candy bag!

Any teams that are interested in volunteering to run the concession for a few nights in May or June are encouraged to send an e-mail to info@vmsa.ca. One adult must be present, but it is fine for several teammates to also operate the concession. The players usually have a fun time spending time together behind the counter.

The Wildcats schedule can be found here: https://lmsoftball.com. Just go to the Schedule/Results dropdown and select the age category you’re interested in. This season the VMSA has U13B, U15B, U17B, and U19B teams playing. *Schedules are fixed but could vary due to weather or other circumstances. Come out to see our most competitive players and support them!
