Whether this will be your first year, or whether you have umpired in the past - we would love to have join our team! Anyone 13 and up (adults too!) who is familiar with the game can become an umpire. Umpiring is a great way to meet new people, develop your skills, and make some money. VFA will be providing mentorship and support to ensure you are on the path to success. All you need to do is get certified.
How to Get Certified:
Step 1: Register as an umpire with Softball BC and pay the fees
Visit the Umpire Registration page on the Softball BC website here. This page contains lots of information on how to register as an umpire with Softball BC. Near the bottom of the page, you will find the link to register, which is also here. Clicking the registration link will take you to the RAMP Registrations site where you will sign into your Softball BC account and then click the "Official Registration" button.
Once you have paid the fees, please forward the receipt to umpire.vfa@gmail.com so that you can be added into our system. Your registration fee will be reimbursed by VFA once you have umpired 5 games.
Step 2: Complete the umpire training
Before you can work any games, you must (1) complete the theory component and (2) attend an in-person mechanics clinic.
Theory Component
This part of the certification process will teach you the basics of umpiring. You will watch 5 pre-recorded Level 1 theory videos and complete the Umpire Exam. You can find the videos and exam link near the bottom of the Umpire Clinics page of the Softball BC website: click here.
In-Person Mechanics Clinic
This part of the certification process will teach you the practical part of umpiring: positioning, signals, and more. Sign up using the following form: 2025 Vancouver Umpire Mechanics Clinic Sign-up
